  • lexvoco's quoted in the AFR

    17 March 2016

The AFR recently published an article on the rise of ‘lawyers on demand’ and spoke to lexvoco regarding the benefits New Law can offer lawyers.

Competition between legal contractors is also heating up with newer players on the market such as Lexvoco. Managing principal Anthony Wright said lawyers working with New Law disruptors such as Lexvoco could get better money, more flexibility and diversity of work.

"Despite putting in long hours some lawyers will never make partner, or it will happen much later in their career," Mr Wright said. "There is little incentive to work longer hours but it's still an expectation in big law."

He said the company received around 50 enquiries a week mostly from mid to senior-level lawyers from general counsels at ASX listed companies to senior partners at major law firms.

    Media Release (11 December 2014)

Helping law firms and in-house teams when they need it

lexvoco has been launched to help General Counsel and law firm partners combat the tremendous pressure and challenges most of them deal with.  "We're thrilled to be able to provide a viable solution that will help in-house legal teams and law firms throughout Australia by providing flexible passionate lawyers when clients are short-staffed or lack the necessary skills internally," said Anthony Wright, the founder of lexvoco.  "On short notice our experienced people can be in a client's office or work remotely for days, months or years.  From eager law graduates to semi-retired General Counsel and senior partners, we have a lot covered."  This enables law firms and in-house legal teams to meet their clients' needs efficiently, economically and accurately, and improve employee satisfaction.

The pressure and the challenges are remarkably similar for General Counsel and law firm partners.  Pressure to be faster but still perfect, always be on call, work more, reduce costs, improve margins and headcount freeze are common themes.  In an industry where client demand fluctuates and is unpredictable, with capped internal skills and time means that work is delayed or declined, staff burn out and make mistakes, legals become more expensive and clients get frustrated.  On the flip side, it is well documented that there is a large, growing number of great lawyers who love the law and are looking for something different.  lexvoco is perfectly placed to improve both aspects.

A unique aspect of lexvoco is the know-how, resources and support the lexvoco team will have from McInnes Wilson Lawyers, a growing firm with roots deep in Queensland but with an ever-expanding presence in Sydney and now Melbourne.  "We know the industry is changing and we must think differently as well.  The relationship with lexvoco and its team will also provide opportunities for our lawyers to work in-house with great brands.  Most pleasing, from my perspective, is how lexvoco will provide career opportunities and lifestyle choices for hundreds of impressive lawyers who enjoy helping people with the law," Paul Tully, CEO of McInnes Wilson Lawyers.
